Covid Update 11th March 2021

This update is exactly one year since the first information bulletin about covid last year.

It has been a strange and difficult year

We have been overwhelmed by the support from the people of Porthcawl – initially nearly all our PPE was donated by you. People have been so very kind, offering messages of support and frequent gifts of baking, coffee, flowers etc. We have tried to write to most people who have helped us – many apologies to those we have missed – everything has been appreciated.

Although we have been working in different ways we have never been closed, but have continued to support our patients. We have installed extra telephone lines (we realise we will never have enough!) to help us to manage the telephone workload, and have been using video consultations and econsultations as well.

In the last year we have received 97740 telephone calls and have made 103635 outgoing calls. Outgoing calls have doubled from the previous year.

GPs have provided 28028 telephone consultations,7150 of these resulting in face to face consultations. Including econsultations and other contacts we have provided 41206 consultations

We have vaccinated 4284 in the surgery and 2446 have had their vaccine in the community vaccination centres – a total of 6730 of our patients.

If you are aged 65 or over and have not been invited for vaccination please contact us

We are continuing to work through group 6 in descending age order – these are people recorded as having an underlying health condition putting them at risk. You do not need to contact us. Please do not telephone us at present.

We have not been asked to vaccinate otherwise well people. They will be contacted in due course. If you need the vaccine prior to an operation this will be organised in the hospital by the hospital team.

Thank you again for working with us

Please be patient with the telephones

DO contact us if you have a health concern – we are open!

Keep following the guidance and stay safe
